Have you read Kurt Vonnegut? He was a writer’s writer. Not only did he write excellent fiction that has stood the test of time, but he knew how he did what he did and how to teach this to the rest of us.

I’m going to quote him quite directly and hope that he serves as a great teacher to you as well.

Vonnegut called the following “Creative Writing 101” from the preface to his short story collection Bagombo Snuff Box. Anyone who’s been to college knows that 101 refers to the first class you take on the way to taking much more difficult courses, but without this foundation, you won’t benefit from the 200-level courses and beyond.
