Writers Gonna Write?
What’s in a name? Why “Writers Gonna Write”? This is built on the premise that wherever you are in your writing career, whether you in high school realizing this is something you love or you are 75 and you’ve been doing this for decades, you are compelled to write.
I co-lead a group for Christian artists, and I found that our most successful artists are the ones who driven to create. Like me, they just can’t shake it. It doesn’t matter what their actual job is, art is what gives them a deep joy. It’s unshakable.
I have felt that way since I was six years old. I remember declaring that to my first grade friends during recess that I was going to be a writer. I don’t know how I knew it, but that feeling has never waned.
As I’ve grown older I’ve met many people who have walked a similar path. They were voracious readers early on and haven’t stopped. When you ask them about their favorite book, they don’t hesitate. They might list two or three books, but they know the answer. They are insatiably curious and they know what book I’m referring to when I say that.
Some use a typewriter, a yellow legal pad, or a computer (like I do).
That’s less important. Some work in cafés, libraries, or in a dungeon at home (like I do).
That’s less important. Some have degrees in accounting, biology, or English (like I do).
That’s less important.
What is important is that they are writing because they want to write, because they need to write. So do I.
If that’s you, join our merry band. Get on the train. We’re going places.
